My Opinions and Recommendations
Joni Mitchell is a classic. She has influenced thousands of singers and songwriters and will most likely continue to do so for some time. Her voice is very unique and her lyrics always have more than one level. Although I only have one album, I am hoping to get more as time goes on. I bought the Blue CD because of the Christmas Song, River, on it. I also really like A Case of You and California.
The only reason Joni sounds like anyother artists are because she has influenced them. If you are looking for a similar mellow sound, try Leona Naess who has a great folk/pop mix. Nelly Furtado has fabulous lyrics with a sound as original as Joni's was when she began. Finally, listen to another old classic Carole King. She is just as timeless as Joni.
