My Opinions and Recommendations
This lady is a true diva, in the opera sense. She has a beautiful voice and an original sound. I only have her showtunes CD because I love Broadway. The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection is a must have for any Broadway fan, though. My favorites are Love Changes Everything and Another Suitcase in Another Hall. This is one girl who is a diva WITHOUT the pop sound that usually accompanies the title.
Her album Harem is very unique, as I imagine the rest of her work to be. It is definitely not pop sounding, but her voice is so interesting that some of the songs could be heard on the easy rock stations. I really like her version of What a Wonderful World. I also like The Journey Home.
Obviously, it is hard to find a similar sound in my list of artists. But I would still like to give it a shot. Give Tori Amos a try, her voice has a very operatic style. Tori's music is clearly more indie sounding, though. Also try Annie Lennox. Her voice has the aged and experienced sound that often accompanies opera. Finally, check out Natalie Merchant. I love Natalie's sound, it is so calming and relaxing, and I think that Sarah has those same qualities.
